R&D IT’s vision is to deliver the best science IT capabilities in biopharma, which we define as agile, responsive and fit-for-future. Our goal is to engage with our stakeholders as a strategic partner in delivering life-changing medicines to our patients. The desired effect of your role is to take accountability as a leader for delivering a ‘Best in Class’ IT experience within R&D IT.

Delivering the portfolio of projects and services needs people with hybrid skill sets covering technical, analytical, project management, service management, BRM and business analysis skills, combined with an excellent knowledge of AZ Finance and Global Product and Portfolio Strategy processes. Our project managers lead or contribute to a range of projects including IT development, data management, analytics, AI, machine learning, business transformation and more.  Our projects deploy a range of technologies including internal custom build solutions, packaged software, ERP solutions, Software as a Service as well as Cloud based solutions and BI tools.

Role

The IT Project Manager leads technology and/or business transformation projects/programs to ensure that they align to the vision and business strategy, and that true business value is delivered to the customer as a result. Having a strong partnership with the business and IT customer driving the demand for the solution is critical to success in this role.

The IT Project Manager is accountable for ensuring solutions solve key business needs in an integrated and simple manner, exploiting existing assets where feasible, and minimizing the long-term total cost of ownership. The role must also ensure that delivery occurs with a sense of urgency and speediness of response and can be completed within the approved program budget and schedule commitments, whilst continuously assessing risk and balancing the need for flexibility and agility with conformance to standard methods and tools.

Focus areas include stakeholder management across Business, IT, and vendor partners, risk management and delivery of business benefit. This role is also required to collaborate with others in Program and Project Management, and drive development of the project / program management capability across IT in a tangible and measurable way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading cross-functional IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Working closely with R&D teams to understand their IT needs, translating these requirements into effective project plans and technology solutions.
  • Managing and optimizing the engineering enablement capabilities, including DevOps, MLOps, CloudOps, security measures, process templates, and automation solutions.
  • Serving as an Agile Scrum Master, facilitating daily scrum meetings, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospective meetings to ensure continuous improvement within the team.
  • Coordinating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure the seamless integration of new technologies and systems into the existing R&D IT infrastructure.
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, progress reports, risk assessments, and stakeholder communications.
  • Implementing and advocating for best practices in project management and Agile methodologies within the team to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Overseeing the project budget, including forecasting, tracking expenses, and ensuring financial efficiency.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks and issues, implementing solutions to overcome obstacles and ensure project success.
  • Championing the adoption of automation solutions and process improvements across data and analytics platforms to enhance R&D operations.
  • Facilitating knowledge sharing and skills development within the team, ensuring team members are up-to-date with the latest in technology trends and project management methodologies.
  • Collaborating with the IT security team to ensure that all projects comply with regulatory requirements and company security policies.

Candidate Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Technical, Science or Business degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of Project Management experience, ideally in a Pharmaceutical IT environment.
  • Experience working in global organization and across cultural boundaries.
  • Experience in Agile Project Management.
  • Demonstrated skills interacting with Senior Leaders.
  • Experience leading large projects /programs.
  • Experience working with third party suppliers.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent relationship management, and influencing skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and the proven ability to shape innovative solutions.
  • Well-developed organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Program/Project Management certifications preferred (Prince, PMP, MSP, Agile – Scrum, SAFe).
  • Experience with data management tools and techniques such as ETL and data virtualization.
