Associate Director of Scientific Communications and Engagement

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the internal science engagement and communications strategy for our Early Oncology (EO) and Precision Medicine (PM) group at AstraZeneca. Working with diverse stakeholders, including scientists, senior leaders and corporate affairs you will use proven and innovative mechanisms to bring our strategy and portfolio to life and inspire communities as we work towards achieving our bold ambition 2030. This critical role will support the Director, Scientific Communications and Engagement, EO&PM. The role will support the internal science engagement and communications strategy for Early Oncology, acting as a key partner to the SVP of EO&PM and providing dedicated strategic communications and support to this innovative, progressive and visible leader.
Working with a diverse range of stakeholders, you will develop an exciting internal communications agenda featuring innovative solutions to enhance employee engagement and tell the Early Oncology story. You will partner with global corporate affairs to align and shape science communications that enhance the external reputation of this organisation and AstraZeneca
Typical Accountabilities:
Implement the internal science communications and engagement strategy for Early Oncology & Precision Medicine, working closely with diverse stakeholders across AstraZeneca including the SVP of Early Oncology & Precision Medicine, Business Planning & Operations leads and the Leadership Teams.
Draft internal posts for leaders to be shared across internal digital and social channels to mark milestones, broader company campaigns and drive engagement
Execute internal editorial calendar and messaging to raise the visibility of Early Oncology & Precision Medicine achievements (e.g. milestones) and to communicate our progress
Provide strategic input into our broader Early Oncology & Precision Medicine internal communications strategy (events, awards, overarching campaigns)
Work directly with the Early Oncology & Precision Medicine leadership teams to define the strategic focus and develop content for internal and external engagements (e.g. external scientific presentations and Town Hall meetings)
Support the SVP of Early oncology & Precision Medicine with external and internal scientific presentations
Overall accountable for delivery of key business reports and milestones for Early Oncology & Precision Medicine to capture scientific achievements / deliverables, working in partnership with the Director of Early Oncology & Precision Medicine Communications
Partner with Oncology Global corporate affairs to shape external communications to further enhance the external scientific reputation of Early Oncology & Precision Medicine
Work as a strong, matrix stakeholder manager to deliver in a collaborative and engaging manner leading to successful delivery against goals
Essential requirements:
BS/BA degree in life sciences or communications or related field
5 + years of experience in healthcare communications
Experience supporting senior leaders through communications counsel
Experience developing and implementing integrated communication plans both internally and externally
Knowledge of R&D and global pharmaceutical market
Understanding and experience of employee engagement standard methodologies
Understanding and experience of issues management
Strong understanding of internal and external partners, including physicians, payers and patients
Ability to work in a global environment including understanding of cultural differences
Desirable requirements:
Understanding and experience of digital and social media
National and global communications experience
