Rare Disease Regional Account Manager - 12 months contract

In this role, you will champion AstraZeneca’s rare disease portfolio across key accounts, shaping treatment access and awareness for conditions such as aHUS, NF1 and LAL-D while promoting Alexion portfolio. You will partner closely with physicians and other relevant and administrative decision makers, translating complex science into clear value, and ensuring therapies like Ultomiris, Koselugo and Kanuma reach eligible patients. Your impact will be felt in the healthcare organisations where every timely decision matters.

You’ll join a collaborative, cross-functional team focused on outcomes. From designing account plans to informing policy shifts, you will engage with Medical, Market Access, Marketing and Public Affairs to drive results that improve patient pathways and secure sustainable growth, with a particular focus on Portugal.

Accountabilities:


Scientific Partnerships: Provide accurate, evidence-based medical information on aHUS (Ultomiris), NF1 (Koselugo) and LAL-D (Kanuma) to opinion leaders and hospital decision makers, supporting informed care and access.

Key Account Strategy: Implement the commercial strategy within targeted hospitals and key accounts, achieving commercial goals and co-designing account plans for Portugal that reflect each institution’s environment and requirements.

Relationship Building: Build a network of trusted relationships with hospital stakeholders and influencers; organize staff meetings with key stakeholders in alignment with plan and with Medical support.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with MSLs and Market Access in the territory, and collaborate with Marketing, Medical Affairs and Public Affairs to align and execute integrated account strategies; share relevant insights with the country team.

Market Intelligence: Monitor and analyze data, market conditions and health policy developments; identify competitive advantages and report on changes that may impact business performance.

Education and Disease Awareness: Implement educational and disease awareness initiatives using approved resources; prepare and deliver medical, educational and promotional presentations to external audiences.

Operational Excellence: Fulfil call plans, maintain timely and accurate CRM reporting, collect and communicate pharmacovigilance information in line with procedures, and secure access for all on-label patients.

Compliance and Integrity: Ensure all actions comply with country pharmaceutical regulations and company values, processes and standards.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Preferably 3-5 years’ experience on Hospital business in rare diseases/orphan drugs  

  • Demonstrable commercial success in a specialist hospital role.

  • Previous experience in key account management would be highly desirable.

  • Ability to successfully resolve issues/problem solving

  • Knowledge and understanding of country pharmaceutical regulations

  • Computer office packs and reporting tools

  • Regional and National travel  

  • Fluent level of English both spoken and written

  • A sound medical/scientific background.  

  • Degree in life science (preferred) or business/marketing

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Proven experience in rare disease account management within hospitals and integrated care systems.

  • Established relationships with clinical leaders and administrators across Portuguese centers of excellence.

  • Experience in nephrology/pediatric transplant, pediatric neurology/oncology/ gastroenterology/endocrinology.

  • Understanding of aHUS, NF1 and LAL-D care pathways, diagnostics and referral patterns.

  • Experience in high competitive hospital environment and hospital pharmacy is also a plus

  • Strong proficiency with CRM tools and data analysis to guide account strategy.

  • Demonstrated success in access initiatives, reimbursement pathways and cross-functional planning.

  • Fluency in Portuguese and English; strong communication skills.
