Introduction to role:

Global Clinical Solutions (GCS) drives the delivery of services and technology for AstraZeneca for its internal and external stakeholders.

The Manager, GCS supports teams to improve process effectiveness and performance in operational processes/procedures within the department, as well as providing support and guidance in the development of processes owned by Global Clinical Solutions. 

Individuals with this job will coordinates/lead and deliver GCS services across projects and/or other activities that enable delivery of Clinical Development programs to time, cost, and quality across all delivery models. They may be assigned one or more roles relating to the development and maintenance of processes, systems and services. All Managers, GCS will lead and project manage improvement projects as needed. 

Accountabilities:

As the member of a specific activity team the Manager, GCS: 

1. Coordinates and delivers GCS services and coordinates life cycle management and business continuity for projects services and technology. Provides expert support to user communities including

  • I. conducting relevant process/system/tool trainings 

  • II. facilitating knowledge sharing 

  • III. establishing of best practice 

  • IV. ensuring communication with relevant stakeholders across GCS and AZ 

2. Conducts critical analyses of processes and tools to define business usage. Finds opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of systems, services, and processes. Also reduces business continuity risks. Contributes to and/or develops arguments for continuous improvement projects 

3. Leads or manages business improvement projects according to lean principles, including planning, prioritizing, implementing and tracking delivery 

4. Acts as a source of knowledge in one or more areas of GCS 

5. Supports the implementation of changes to improve the way various functions and teams perform 

6. Evaluates and monitors the performance and efficiency of programs to ensure that program implementation is on target 

7. Responsible for training colleagues to use continuous improvement in the new ways of working and embed change culture 

8. Grows capabilities, applies new approaches to improve work; and has positive impact on team performance creating learning opportunity for others 

9. Responsible for knowledge management of continuous improvement activities and ensuring that the knowledge is used in the selection and execution of future activities. 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • University degree in related discipline, preferably in biological science or healthcare-related fields, such as medicine or nursing.

  • Clinical domain knowledge, Manual testing, IRT/RTSM, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), HP ALM or JIRA

  • Ability to work collaboratively; proven organizational and analytical skills, and proven skills to deliver to time, cost and quality

  • Good project management skills

  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English

  • Strong business communication, stakeholder management and presentation skills

  • Well-developed organisational and interpersonal skills

  • Ensures risks and issues management to ensure effective delivery. Expertly utilises blocking issue routes and governance to gain traction and deliver rapid solutions 

  • Shares lessons learned and guideline recommendations with relevant collaborators to drive continuous improvement 

  • Builds relationships and achieve results without line management input

  • Curious and self-motivated 

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Expert in their relevant service

  • Experience of applying standard process improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean Six Sigma) to identify root causes of process issues and identify areas of process improvement

  • Some experience of Quality Systems and Quality Management, including process definition and process improvement, ideally within an Information Systems environment

  • Experience in multiple fields of clinical development

  • At least 2 year experience in Drug Development within a pharmaceutical or clinical background

  • Understanding ICH GCP guidelines in relation to study delivery

  • Experience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical context
