Location: Monksland, Athlone
Permanent Night Shifts: 8.25 hr. 37.5 hours per week Average Work Week (12x5 Operations)
Sunday to Friday (Sunday 23:00-07:00, Monday to Friday 22:45-07:00 to allow for shift handover)
Introduction to role:
The Warehouse Lead is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day warehouse activities at the Athlone facility. This role ensures that all warehouse operations are completed according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), in a safe manner, and in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The Warehouse Lead provides operational direction to night shift warehouse personnel, supports schedule adherence, and acts as a key point of escalation for warehouse activities during night shift operations.
This position is expected to represent Alexion Pharmaceutical interests, objectives and policies in a professional and responsible manner while supporting operational readiness, GMP compliance, safety standards and effective communication between the night shift team, Warehouse Supervisor and relevant cross-functional partners.
Accountabilities:
- Coordinating and performing day-to-day warehouse activities on the permanent night shift to meet manufacturing schedules while maintaining a high level of GMP compliance.
- Ensuring all training, safety procedures and compliance requirements for night shift equipment, processes and facility activities are maintained and up to date at all times.
- Maintaining the Warehouse Quality System by adhering to all relevant SOP’s, policies and cGMP requirements
- Aiding with troubleshooting and resolving operational problems as they arise
- Acting as the primary Warehouse point of contact for night shift operational issues, ensuring appropriate escalation and handover to the Warehouse Supervisor and day shift team.
- Providing guidance, coaching and task prioritisation for Warehouse Associates assigned to the night shift to ensure safe, compliant and efficient execution of warehouse activities.
- Perform routine activities related to dispensed materials to the manufacturing environment.
- Performing routine material inspection exercises in accordance with agreed procedures and standards to support material release in line with manufacturing schedule
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for material sampling, inspection, stock movement and related warehouse activities where required, demonstrating technical proficiency and supporting compliant execution on night shift.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas needing improvement, recommending strategies for improvement and implementing those strategies once approved
- Proactively ensuring that all Environmental, Health and Safety responsibilities are carried out according to EHS regulations and procedures
- Providing support to Operations, Validation, Engineering and Quality where required
- Completing training with new/junior Warehouse Associates
- Report to the Warehouse Supervisor on night shift area performance, escalation items, handover priorities and any issues requiring resolution.
- Authoring and revising standard operating procedures, related forms/logbooks and job roles as required
- Recognising and initiating deviations relevant to the area, complete associated investigations and ensure closure in a timely manner
- Represent Warehouse/Operations in cross functional initiatives and meetings

Essential Skills/Experience:
- Confirmed experience performing warehouse activities in a cGMP commercial manufacturing environment, with proven capability to lead or coordinate operational activities.
- Proficiency in an inventory management system e.g. SAP or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft office, Excel, Word & Copilot
- Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital tools and data-driven ways of working, with the ability to support appropriate use of digital solutions within warehouse operations.
- Good interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
- Should be knowledgeable of regulatory and GMP requirements.
- Full cGMP training complete in current or previous relevant role.
- Forklift training complete or willingness to maintain required warehouse equipment training for the role.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- IATA and ADR training to support sample shipment
- Formal education in logistics/warehousing/supply chain would be an advantage.
- Experience supporting digital enhancements, automation initiatives, AI-enabled tools, dashboards, workflow improvements or system optimisation within a warehouse, materials management or GMP manufacturing environment.
